What does the Pico centre do?
The Centre is an institute committed in a wide activity of cultural promotion.
The establishing and key objectives of this activity collocate in the wide framework of the study, of the reserach and of knowledge, by developing different in-depth and popularization courses
MEETINGS, SEMINARIES AND CONFERENCES
The International Centre of Culture “Giovanni Pico della Mirandola” intends to reserve an important space to the meeting and seminar activity, as it is certainly an excellent occasion of open-mindedness and debate on the main objectives and interests of the Association.
Obviously, Giovanni and Giovan Francesco Pico, their thought, their works, their time, their cultural and social background, in which they lived and acted, represent the key starting and reference points for the performance of these activities.
Furthermore, the Centre, in the framework of the achievement of its own guideline, i.e., the exploitation, enhancement and consolidation of the knowledge of the Mirandola territory and of the Seigniory, also promotes initiatives focused on characters, episodes, moments and events, which, in different historical periods, are to be correlated with the city of Mirandola and its territory.
THE PUBLICATIONS
The International Centre of Culture "Giovanni Pico della Mirandola" carries out its own publishing activities
It has, in fact, created three series inside which its own publications are provided:
- Series "Pico Studies", edited by Leo S. Olschki publisher (Florence);
- Series “International Centre of Culture Giovanni Pico della Mirandola”, directly edited by the Association;
- Series “Workbooks of the Pico Centre” directly edited by the Association.
THE BOOK PRESENTATIONS
During every year, the Centre organizes presentations of books in order to, first, make the publications edited by the Association known, but also those, which, in a different way, refer to the figures of Giovanni and Giovan Francesco Pico, to their works and to their time as well as to historical aspects and features of the city of Mirandola.
ON THE OCCASION OF TWO DATES: 24th FEBRUARY AND 17th NOVEMBER
The Centre, as a rule, intends to remember Giovanni Pico in the most important dates of the Philosopher’s life, or close to them, i.e. the date of his birth and his death. It is the time for a moment of reflection and debate on certain issues and categories of the Pico thought.
TO THINK...
The International Centre of Culture “Giovanni Pico della Mirandola” organizes, every year, with the Municipality of Mirandola, the event “To think. ”. It is an initiative, during which some meetings-lectures take place with scholars and intellectuals committed in the debate on an issue, which is looked over by exploiting the contribution, the language and the instruments of different disciplines.
THE DOCUMENTATION AND THE EXCHANGES
Far-back, the Centre pursues, as one of its primary objectives, the consolidation and strengthening of its own association role, which, in compliance with its own statutory provisions, intends to provide a valid reference point for the knowledge and the study of Giovanni and Giovan Francesco Pico and of their time as well as of the culture and history of the city of Mirandola.
In this way, the Centre is willing to maintain an intense activity of book exhanges with libraries of different bodies and institutes, by paying particular attention to the finding of publications, documents and other material relating to the figure of Giovanni Pico and to the main theme of the Renaissance.
